Year 2ER

Week beginning 23rd and 30th June.

We have had a busy few weeks. Take a look below at some of the things we have doing:

Mrs Roberts's Language and Literacy groups have been performing 'Beauty and the Beast' plays which they planned and practised independently then presented to the whole of year 2:

 

 

Week beginning 16th June:

This week we will be starting our 'Big Wide World' topic. As the title suggests we will be looking at countries around the world.

This week we will be focusing on Wales but then moving on to look closely at Botswana. We will also be looking at Spain. Please see this week's learning log task as if you have any items linked to the topic please bring them into school.

Have a great half term! After the holidays we will be continuing our topic for the first few weeks. Our Trip to Greenfield will be on Thursday 5th May. Please make sure forms/monies are returned to school by Tuesday 3rd.

Summer Term

 Our topic is 'Remember Remember.' We will be looking at the concept of the past and in particular 'The Victorians.'

 This week we have started our topic. We have been thinking about what we know about the past and what we would like to find out!

Learning log task: Can you bring in an object linked to the topic and explain why you've chosen it!

Spring Term B: Wriggle and Crawl

Week beginning 7th April:

This week we had lots of fun at the Ugly Bug Ball! We will be putting the pictures on shortly.

Week beginning 31st March:

Next week we will be practising our poems and songs ready to perform them at our 'Ugly bug ball' in the final week of term.

Please see the letter in bookbags regarding 'The ball' and the mask you would like to make this week. Return the form ASAP so we can start making them.

More details based on the date of the ball will follow.

We have been really enjoying our new Year 2 reward system of collecting play money to spend in the class shop.

We have been making choices about spending and saving.

Lots of us have also been spending our money on 'Milkshake Friday' if we have saved 5p.

Week beginning 3rd and 10th March:

The last few weeks we have been busy starting our new topic. We will be looking closely at minibeasts, habitats and the school garden area. Thankyou for all the items that have been brought into school linked to the topic.

Children who are doing 'Forest schools' with Miss Butterly please see the 2NB class page for pictures and information.

HALF TERM:

Have a lovely break!

Please check book bags for the letter regarding the Infant Eisteddfod on March 7th and the events your child can enter.

Next term our topic will be 'Wriggle and Crawl' so if you have any thing linked to the garden or minibeasts then bring it in for our display area.

Spring Term A:

Week beginning 17th February:

This week we will be writing our comic strips into stories.

We will also be carrying out an investigation in maths and evaluating our work on superheroes using 2 stars and a wish!

Remember to check learning logs for the homework task. This week we have a task about time which the children have been finding quite tricky!

Week beginning 10th February:

This week we will be drafting and completing a final copy of our own comic strips. We will then be making these comic strips into a
class book.

We will be continuing with our work on Captain storms cape and finding the answer to our initial question 'Which material will be the best for his cape?'

In Maths we will be focusing on work on symmetry, measuring and setting new individual maths targets.


Week beginning 3rd February:

This week we will be planning our own Superhero comic strips. We will be looking at the features of a comic strip such as speech bubbles, thought bubbles, narrative and word blasts!

In maths we will be focusing on subtraction - please see learning log task for consolidation practise.

In Topic we are creating bar charts based on our superhero investigation. We will be interpreting the results and thinking about what the bar charts show.

Week beginning 27th January:

This week we will be: creating our own Superhero vehicles, worlds and Villains in preparation for writing our own comic strips.

We are also going to carry out an investigation. ' Which is the best material for Captain Storms cape?'

Week beginning 20th January:

This week we have been creating our own tally charts and bar charts about Superheroes. We charted the favourite superheroes in 2ER.

We also watched our class performance of Santas on Strike. Mr Edwards has kindly put it on a DVD and it is now available to order. All the children have an order form in their book bags. These are to be returned by Friday 31st January if you wish to order a copy.

Thursday 16th January: Superhero and hero dress up day!

We have had lots of fun dressing up today! Look at the gallery below for our pictures.

 

 

We have created hero factfiles, a picture competition and have started 'The day in the life of my hero/superhero' diaries.

Welcome back, We hope you all had a lovely Christmas holidays.

This term our topic is Superheroes and there have already been lots of great items brought into school linked to the topic!

Please see attached below this terms newsletter with important dates, details of pop ins and other information you will need to know for the term ahead!

Week 13th January: On Thursday 16th January we are having a Dress up day. You can come dressed up as a superhero you know, one you have designed yourself or a real life hero ( eg/ nurse/doctor/policeman etc)
We can't wait to see all your costumes and even the teachers are
planning on dressing up!

Autumn Term B:

Week 16th December

We hope you have a fantastic Christmas holidays and look forward to seeing you again in January.

Our new topic will be 'Superheroes.' If you have anything linked to this topic then please bring it in!

Please remember in the first week you will need reading books, High frequency word logs on Tuesday and your learning logs on Thursday.
Please also bring back PE kits.

Week 9th December

Our Santa's On Strike performance this week! Well done for working so hard! Look out for the picture in the Pioneer!

Week beginning 25th November

Please remember the Year 2 Christingle service is in Seion Chapel on Monday 2nd December. See letter below and please bring an orange to school! We have been busy practising a Mandarin song to sing with Miss Fei at the service.

Please return letters regarding Christmas play tickets. If we have any tickets left over we will put a note up on the mobile door.

Costumes are to be brought in by Friday 6th December. We need them in in preparation for our dress rehearsal.

Week 18th November:

What are we learning about...

In maths we have been looking at column addition with tricky columns.

In language we have been learning how to create an Invitation to a party.

In Topic work we have been looking at designing a 'happiness island' and learning about the food wheel.

In Welsh we have been learning to say 'Dwi'n hoffi...'

Week 4th November

mberWelcome back. This term our new topic is called 'Happiness.' This term we will be looking at what make us happy and more details of how the topic will develop will follow.

Thankyou to all those children who have tried really hard over the holidays to learn their words for the Christmas play. We were very impressed today! Make sure you keep practising them regularly at home so you don't forget them!

Finally a big congratulations to Levi, our Star of the half term! A really hardworking member of the class who always tries his best!

OCTOBER 25th: Finish for Half Term

We hope you all have a lovely half term and have enjoyed what we have covered up to now. The topic will change when we return to school.

Over the holidays we have given you 10 spellings for you word log. The five extra have been taken from words which have been spelt incorrectly in class work. Can we please remind you that spelling books should be returned on Monday.
In addition, can you all learn learn your words for our school production in December. This year our play will be Santa's on Strike. We will provide you with more information on times and dates closer to the time.

Well done to you all!  Congratulations also goes to Alicia who is the first to achieve ten stars. Please ensure your reading book is brought to class everyday. Book changing days are Monday, Wednesday and Friday. We want to read with your child at least once a week and will be unable to do this if they do not bring their book into school.
