To make us Ethical, Ambitious, Creative and Healthy Learners, it is really important to learn about the customs, traditions, festivals, religions and languages celebrated all over the world.
You will see in the above banner, that we have included many of the languages that form part of our pupils' family lives, outside school.
This year, Years 1, 2, 3 & 4 will be learning Spanish and Nursery, Reception, Year 5 & 6 will be learning French!
European Languages Day 2022!
In Year 1 we enjoyed learning about Spain. We listened to songs to help us learn colours and numbers in Spanish. We built towers and counted the blocks. We made our own colour posters and practised saying the colour names. We also learnt about a Spanish artist Pablo Picasso. We created our own Picasso pictures.
In Juniors this year, we focussed on different countries:
Year 3 - Ukraine
Year 4 - Iceland
Year 5 - Portugal
Year 6 - Greece
We shared what we learnt in an assembly, with the Juniors children getting involved in learning and saying new vocabulary in Ukrainian, Icelandic, Portuguese and Greek.
European Languages Day 2021!
The children across the school have enjoyed “flying off” to countries including Italy, France, Germany and Spain to complete lots of exciting activities for European Languages Day 2021!
Here is some of the fantastic learning we completed:
Reception
We have had fun finding out about France. We located France on a map, found out about Paris, French food and some famous landmarks. We even learnt to count to 10 in French. We hope that you like our French flags!
Year 1
Fiesta Nacional de España – Tuesday 12th October and European Languages Day
We celebrated the special day by wearing red and yellow clothes. We have been learning facts about Spain including what food they eat. We have been learning numbers and colours in Spanish by listening to Spanish songs. We have also been building famous Spanish buildings in the Construction area both indoors and outdoors. Finally we have been making the Spanish flag in the Creative area to celebrate the special day and learning Spanish.
Year 3
The children in Year 3 made a stop in Germany during their ‘Festivals of The World’ topic, to learn a German conversation and create a poster of number 1-20! Guten Tag!
Year 4
Year 4 had a whole day of Italian escapades, researching the country and it’s landmarks and history, plotting points on the Italian map, learning an Italian conversation and using “Silenzio Bruno” to learn how to have a growth mindset. Molto bene!
Year 5
Year 5 researched Spain, learnt Spanish vocabulary such as colours and numbers, and then used Adobe Spark to create these brilliant videos! Muy buen!
